Compress images

Shrink JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF files without uploading them. Set a quality or an exact size limit.

Good to know

  • Format is set to Original, so a JPG stays a JPG. Switch to WebP or AVIF for the smallest files.
  • Need a file under a limit, like 200 KB for a job portal? Type it into Target size. If quality alone can't get there, the image is scaled down until it fits.

About the formats

Most photos carry far more data than a screen needs. Re-encoding at a sensible quality usually cuts the size by half or more with no visible change.

Questions

What quality should I use?

75 to 82 works for most photos. Go lower for thumbnails, higher for images people will zoom into. Compare shows the result next to the original.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding and encoding run in your browser with WebAssembly. Open your browser's network panel while converting and you will see no image data leave the page.

How many images can I convert at once?

Up to 500 files per batch, each up to 256 MB. Download them one by one, as a ZIP, or save them straight into a folder in Chrome and Edge.

Is camera data like GPS location kept?

No. Output files are written fresh from the pixels, so EXIF data such as GPS position, camera model and date is dropped. Photos are rotated upright first, so nothing ends up sideways.
